Punter-to-placekicker TD passes
On Good Morning Football on NFL Network Peter Schrager said Miami’s Haack to Sanders punter-to-placekicker TD pass was a first.
I found another. There’s probably more.

Tom Yewcic was also the Pats back up QB during that era. Babe Parilli was always getting banged up so he played quite a bit. I'm afraid he was playing at QB when this TD pass occurred, and Gino was also one of the Pats regular WRs at that time.

In my opinion, I’m not so sure that’s a disqualification. They had smaller rosters back then and no room for specialists.RRMarshall wrote:Tom Yewcic was also the Pats back up QB during that era. It wasn’t a fake punt by Miami. Haack was a QB and Sanders was an eligible receiver on the Miami play.

His son Tom Yewcic, Jr. was the second string QB (to Matt Cavanaugh) on the national champion 1976 Pitt Panthers team.RRMarshall wrote:Tom Yewcic was also the Pats back up QB during that era. It is. The entire point of this fact was to point out that a guy who absolutely cannot be expected to throw a TD threw a TD to a guy who absolutely cannot be expected to catch a TD.RyanChristiansen wrote:In my opinion, I’m not so sure that’s a disqualification. Re: Punter-to-placekicker TD passes
According to PFR, the last placekicker before the past Sunday to score a TD was Arizona's Jay Feely in 2010. The Cowboys' Tim Seder scored two TDs in consecutive seasons in 2000-2001, and the Browns' Phil Dawson also scored a TD in 1999. All of those TDs were rushing, but I remember well Dawson's TD and the holder was punter Chris Gardocki, who pitched the ball to Dawson.

I'd say the fact that both players started the game on offense should be a pretty good reason to be a disqualification.RyanChristiansen wrote:In my opinion, I’m not so sure that’s a disqualification. The Miami play was certainly not a fake punt. You rarely see those from the opponent's two yard line.
It wasn't a fake field goal in the sense that the play started out appearing to be a field goal before the pass, but it was a trick play where the field goal team went out in field goal formation before changing into a most unorthodox formation.
I'm surprised that the only kicker in recent memory to catch a touchdown pass was Jim Turner. Jim O'Brien had a couple TD catches, but he was a receiver as well as a kicker.

I'd categorize it as a fake FG. Haack would have been holder.

Rather peripheral to the main thread, but I wonder if any kicker beside Chester Marcol has ever turned a block FG into a TD?conace21 wrote:I'd say the fact that both players started the game on offense should be a pretty good reason to be a disqualification.RyanChristiansen wrote:In my opinion, I’m not so sure that’s a disqualification.
