Re: The other Neill Armstrong

Bears didn't have a good record in '81 and I recall the local sports radio guy in D.C., Ken Beatrice, said that Bears fans were saying "we sent the wrong Neil to the Moon." At the same time Ron Erhadt was having a worse season and he said Patriots fans were call in "Ron Airhead"....

Re: J.V. Cain's death on the practice field

I was 12 when this happened. Growing up in the D.C. area we didn't get a lot of Cardinals news and in the days before widespread cable tv, information was sparse outside of your media market. I recall my dad talking about it and the Cardinals wearing armbands for that season but that's about it. Fo...

Re: National Fanbases

[quote Growing up in DC area in 70's and 80's I never met or saw a Packers fan. Saw very few Packers game on TV. During my youth, those who weren't Redskins fans in my area liked the Dolphins, Steelers, Raiders, and (yuck) the Cowboys. The Colts were nearby so they had their fans too. Also during t...

Redskins Training Camp 1976

While looking for some video on Diron Talbert, I came across somebody's home video of the Redskins Training Camp in 1976 in Carlisle, PA. There is no sound, but you'll see many recognizable players if you're old enough to remember who they are.

Re: National Fanbases

For me I have to say the Cowboys-Steelers-Packers and still just making the cut Raiders are the only true national fanbases in the league. Where you'll find good amounts of them in every corner of this country. Raidernation has persisted through some rotten years. It's been diminished. But despite ...

Re: Dirtiest player in each franchise's history?

I thought Larry Cole's hit on Bradshaw in Super Bowl VIII was dirty. Cole, with a cast on his arm, whacked Terry Bradshaw on his helmet a split second after Terry released his pass to Lynn Swann for a TD. Bradshaw was out for the remainder of the game, but Pittsburgh won anyway. iirc he hit him wit...
