Conference Championship Game Trivia
As we head into the conference championship round, a few trivia questions for you all:
1. Among quarterbacks who started the game and threw at least 15 passes, what quarterbacks hold the record for the highest passer rating for a single game in the NFC Championship Game and AFC Championship Game?
2. Among quarterbacks who started the game and threw at least 15 passes, what quarterbacks hold the record for the lowest passer rating for a single game in the NFC Championship Game and AFC Championship Game?
3. Four teams have made it to the conference championship game or further after having a streak of five or more consecutive losing seasons beforehand. Name them.
NOTE: If you wish to consider teams that finished exactly .500 as losing outright, there are four, if not there are three.
4. Who is the winningest coach of the Super Bowl era who never coached in the conference championship game?
5. What coach is the most games under .500 in the regular season who made it to the conference championship game at least twice?
6. What player has the most career rushing touchdowns who never played in a conference championship game or later?
7. What two players share the record for the most receiving touchdowns who never played in a conference championship game?
I'm curious to see what your answers are.

Re: Conference Championship Game Trivia
Is #4 Marvin Lewis? It seemed like he coached the Bengals forever without ever getting them far in the playoffs.

#2 the AFC QB is Richard Todd
#3 one of the teams is the 2024 Commanders
#5 is...Zac Taylor of the Bengals?
#6 is OJ Simpson
#7 is JT Smith?

Re: Conference Championship Game Trivia
2: Correct on Todd (side note: David Woodley in the same game has the second lowest AFC Championship Game passer rating on 15+ attempts, spiking the ball into the ground on every single play would net a higher passer rating than both combined).Bryan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 10:27 amInteresting stuff. 3. I miscounted, there are three if you count teams with seasons of exactly a .500 win percentage (2022 Commanders were 8-8-1). 2024 Commanders would be one of them if so. Will revise the post up top.
5. Zac Taylor is wrong
6. O.J. Simpson is wrong.
7. Had not heard of J.T. Smith. It is not him.

Re: Conference Championship Game Trivia
4. is Marvin Lewis. Not only did he not make an AFC Championship Game, he never won a playoff game (though to be fair, the 2015 Bengals could have if they didn’t fall apart at the very end). He ultimately coached seven playoff teams and a further three that went 8-8.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t think we’ll ever see a coach with that long a leash who never wins a playoff game.
Re: Conference Championship Game Trivia
Speaking of long leashes....Dick Jauron coached 10 years and had 9 losing seasons. That's quite an accomplishment.SeahawkFever wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 11:55 am I don’t know about you, but I don’t think we’ll ever see a coach with that long a leash who never wins a playoff game.

Re: Conference Championship Game Trivia
#3 is tricky because despite a losing season, the WFT won the division.
Despite winning a SB, Mike Tomlin will approach his ninth consecutive coaching year without a playoff win.

Re: Conference Championship Game Trivia
Correct!
Portis was drafted by the Broncos in 2002, a team that would admittedly make an AFC Championship Game three years later in 2005, but he was in Washington by that point.
His best shot was with the Redskins in 2005, when they made the second round but lost to Seattle.

is #7 Brandon Marshall?
