2024 Season Notes Wks 14 - 18

Post by Brian wolf »

Rams trying to catch the Seahawks, while the 49ers have a linebacker that refused to play after losing his starting job. This season for SF makes you wonder if its a fluke or a sign of things to come? Once Purdy gets paid--and he deserves it--who will be gone? Williams, Samuels, Floyd, etc?

Another game without Pickens for the Steelers. Can Austin and Williams step up against Philly? Will Warren be more of a factor in the running game?

Can Buffalo end the Detroit winning streak? TB has a tough game with the Chargers, while the Texans should have their hands full with Miami. Tough game with the Packers-Seahawks sunday night. Can Jayden Reed be a factor after being silent against the Lions?

Just when I thought Jameis had played his way back into a starting job, the other Jameis decides to show up. New Jameis, same as the old Jameis. Watson is certainly not getting it back, so will they just draft a QB now?

Watson will be back ... costs too much to release.

Philly had a good passing game, while Allen scorched the Lions.
He and Barkley are the only two in the running for MVP ... Jackson has the stats but King Henry cancels him out. Mayfield has a case as well, keeping this team in the race despite injuries.

Big wins for Denver, Houston and TB.

More injuries for the Lions, as McNeil and Davis could be done for the year. Nick Chubb is lost for the year as well with a broken foot. Mahomes, TJ Watt and Hurts are injured as well.

Goff also has a small chance, probably 4th highest. Darnold is probably ahead of Mayfield on record alone, the main thing holding both back being minor inconsistentcy and major bust reputations.

That Bills-Lions game lived up to every bit of the hype, certainly one of the better games this season. Both teams showed they are top-3 teams in the NFL and may be the two SB teams. The NFC is definitely the stronger conference, with Philly and Minnesota also very strong contenders, while the AFC has an... improving? Chiefs team and a Ravens team that has forgotten what it is. I suspect they're saving Henry right now to run him 30+ times per game in the playoffs and try to squeeze a SB run out of him, though.

Well, the Lions-Bills game was entertaining as hell. I think Allen has pretty much sewn up the MVP award. The guy's a beast. FWIW--- Goff became the first QB in history to throw for 400 yards and 5 TDs in a losing effort. I would've thought somebody like Blanda, Hadl, or Jurgensen would've done something like that back in the '60s, but there it is.

The Lions' D (for Decimated) is being held together with chewing gum and string. It's looking more and more like the NFC North (and possibly #1 overall) is gonna boil down to Minn @ Detroit on the last day of the season. I don't think the Lions are gonna get too deep into the postseason practically pulling guys off the street to plug all those holes.

Jonathan Taylor joins the Pat Tilley/Sterling Sharpe goal line drop hall of fame. They got away with it. He didn't.

Its happened before, Richard. Marino had a game vs the Jets in 1986 with over 400 yards and six TDs and still lost. There might be other examples but the Lions better check the waiver wires for CBs to help them out. Losing McNeill was huge though.

Thanks for the correction, Brian. I must've heard it wrong---Goff was first Lions QB to post those kinds of numbers and still lose.

Unfortunately, the Bills proved that if a team could make some stops and get a big enough lead on the Lions, it could possibly take them out of their running game, which is their bread and butter, though the passing game is potent. The Vikings cant have a letdown tonight but I feel the Bears will play better than people think.

Atlanta and Cousins should get back on the winning track tonight against the Raiders. Howell for the Seahawks didnt play well in relief of Smith last night but I feel he can play well next week if he starts. Can the offensive line protect him better?

Reports indicate that Montgomery for the Lions might miss games as well with a knee injury. Can he be healthy again by playoff time?

Seahawks fan here, and I don't expect much from my team for the rest of the season. But if the offensive line plays better than it did last night, I wouldn't be surprised.
