There was a short period when teams had goal line specialist RBs. The first guy I remember is Pete Banaszak. One year he led the NFL in rushing TDs on only 187 carries. Hank Bauer had a 22-28-8 statline in 79. Johnny Rodgers was Bill Walsh's short yardage RB in 81. Pete Johnson scored 12 TDs on 87 carries in his final season.

Pete Johnson was an underrated battering ram as a running back.
Wish there were more TD scoring backs like him, today.

Howzabout Mike Vrabel? Sure, he was a LB, but look at his stats:

Regular Season----10 receptions, 10 TDs
Playoffs------------ 2 receptions, 2 TDs

The guy had a dozen catches and each and every one of them was for six points.

Good one!

Here's another good one, this time in a minor league -- but a very good one, the United Football League of 1961. Jason Harness, a wide receiver with the Grand Rapids Shamrocks, caught 14 passes (in a ten-game season) for 457 yards -- an average of 32.6 yards! -- and NINE touchdowns.

This reminds me of buying a VHS of "Gift of Grab" from NFL Films, and on the back cover of the box is a black and white photo of a WR with the caption "BUCKY POPE" underneath...yet upon further inspection its a photo of Harlon Hill...and neither Pope or Hill are profiled in the 'Gift of Grab'' film.
