From Top to Bottom

Post by vikingsfan1963 »

We've all heard about the worst to first success stories, but what team(s) have experienced the biggest drops in wins from one season to the next? I've tried to find this information without any success.

Two off the top of my head:

The Bears went 13-3 in 2001, then followed that with a 4-12 season.

The Panthers went 15-1 in 2015, then 6-10 a year later.

Nine games worse in each case.

Lions went from winning their third straight division title in 1954 with a league-best 9-2-1 record, to finishing 3-9 in 1955, the worst mark in the league. Ironically, Buddy Parker's book, We Play to Win!, came out during the season.

To this day, I felt the 2011 Indy Colts purposely tanked their season for the rights to QB Andrew Luck, going from 10-6 with Manning, who got injured, to 2-14 without him. It cost Caldwell his job and Luck was then drafted ...

The 1964 Chicago Bears went from NFL champions to 5-9, going from having the top defense in '63 to the worst in '64.

Wasn't the first time. They went from 14-2 and the Super Bowl in 1998 to 5-11 in 1999.

Packers dropped off a lot after going to the NFC Championship against the Giants with Favre and then switched to Rodgers the next year.
