Ron Wolf says Art Shell changed the game because the Chargers Fred Dean couldn't beat
him to they moved Dean around and Dean was "first to move all around the DL"
Well, for one, Dean was a LDE in 1975 and 1976. So, no way to know how he'd
do against Shell.
In 1977 they moved Dean to RDE. From 1977-81 when traded he was the RDE
Saw plenty of Chargers games, never saw Dean anywere but RDE
Now, in SF Dean DID move around. In 1981 he'd play either end, nose, or either
tackle in nickel.
Shell had nothing to do with it.
Now IF the Chargers did that they did it so little so as to not notice. Only time
I saw anyone other than Dean at RDE was if he was out with injury.
Checked some films before I posted to confirm my memory

Wasn't Art Shell the first African-American head coach with a significant career? If so, that might qualify him as being a "game changer," if not as a player.
