A few old Bears photos from my little collection.

The Famiglietti one is probably my favourite. When it came up for auction many years ago my immediate reaction was "I'm winning that"!!

Great photos. Good clarity on the action shots. I imagine that had to be hard to capture before we had readily available high speed film. Someone spent a lot of money on good equipment and film, I think.

I have been a collector for 20+ years and as far as I know the 1928 pair are the only known examples of their kind.

The latter (Dayton) is believed to be from George Halas' own collection although their is no provenance for that.

I have seen others from 1928 - Minneapolis Marines (07-Oct-1928), Detroit Wolverines (28-Oct-1928) & Frankford (Philadelphia) Yellow Jackets (02-Dec-1928).

The 1929 & 1940 schedules won't fit on the scanner : )

Interesting in the Manders picture you can see a Redskins player sporting an early, rudimentary facemask. This photo could be no later than 1940

Johnny Gordon, my best friend when we were kid, designed the original "G." He also did the cover illustration for my Johnny Blood book.

How did that come about? Who reached out to him from the Packers regarding the design? Was it Lombardi? I'd be curious the origins of the iconic G...as well as perhaps any other ideas he may have had for a helmet logo?

Also I've noticed (and maybe this is just coincidental) but the Bears seemed to have a lot of players still hanging on with those 1950's style helmets into the 60's and would have face masks awkwardly rigged on as it became more the norm. But they seemed to have a lot of players sporting helmets where the ear parts jutted out a bit more
