Not sure the last time it happened. Pretty sure it was early-'60s. Any examples of such 'double-headers' that come to mind? You think the league would ever apply that again here in the modern era?

In 1966, the Jets played two games in a row vs the Bills but the Bills did not play two games in a row vs the Jets.

The Bills and Jets actually did in 1963 ... final two games of the season. But I believe that was because of the games being rescheduled in the wake of the JFK assassination.

How about three games in a row? The Giants and Redskins played the final two games of the 1943 regular season against each other, then faced each other the following week in the playoffs.

Not recent, but the Bears doubled up in 1935 to finish their season:-

24-Nov vs Detroit T20-20
28-Nov at Detroit L2-14
01-Dec vs Cardinals T7-7
08-Dec at Cardinals W13-0

The Cardinals games were both played at Wrigley Field, the latter having been postponed from 06-Oct because of the MLB World Series game 7 between the Cubs & Tigers.

The most likely times it would have happened in the last 50 years are 2001, (when week 2 games were moved to week 17 after 9/11) and the strike years of 1982 (weeks 3-10 cancelled) and 1987 (week 3 cancelled.)
I reviewed the schedules, and it didn't happen. No back to back games for any of those seasons.

Nice knowledge-drops, guys! I think I knew about a double-header, or two, because of the JFK assassination but a triple-header between Wash & NYG along with Bears’ last two opponents each being double-headers...

in 1957, the Browns beat the Eagles 24-7 in Week 3, with the Eagles winning 17-7 in Philly the following week.

Cool games to watch, too!

The last occurrence was when the Steelers and Redskins played each other in back-to-back weeks in 1966 (Sept. 25 and Oct. 2).
