John Michels, a longtime assistant coach for the MInnesota Vikings from 1967-1993, died on January 10th. He also played tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1953. He was 87 years old.

Turk Schonert, former quarterback with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons died on January 17, at the age of 62:

Bill Mackrides, former quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers died on January 22, at the age of 93: (Mackrides served as a backup to Tommy Thompson on the Philadelphia Eagles NFL Championship Teams of 1948 & 1949).

As you'll learn in the linked story, Benson was also a Minnesota state senator, among other things. I used to work with his daughter, who's quoted in the article. Sounds like he was a real character.
