Combining two things of which I only have vague memory...Rusty Lisch and the early 1980's Cardinals teams...leads me to this question: what position did Rusty Lisch play in the NFL? I remember he was QB at Notre Dame when Dan Devine was obsessed with having Lisch play instead of Joe Montana, and I remember the Bears picked him up in 1984 after all their other QBs got hurt, but that's about it. I was watching a late-season 1981 game between the Eagles and Cards, and Lisch is on the field at safety. He is credited with playing in numerous games for the 1980-83 Cardinals, but only a few times did he actually attempt passes. So did he play most of these games on defense?

He defintely played at safety, as the Cardinals holder in those years was future HOFamer Roger Wehrli. But, as far as I recall, he never started a game a game as a defensive back.

I always get him and Rusty Hilger confused.
