I'm trying to get a full history of blocked kicks by who blocked them, type, distance (for FG's), and final outcome (i.e.: returned for TD, out of end-zone for Safety, end of game to seal victory). I think there are lots of interesting facts here. Guys who blocked 3 kicks in a game - haven't found a 4 yet.
A small handfull of interesting fact already:
- Dennis Smith blocked a 40 Yard FG in OT which was recovered and returned for a TD to win the game.
- 9/28/52 Russ Craft of the Eagles blocked 3 PAT's in a single game against the Steelers
- Hendricks in 1974 had a Blocked Punt called back for being offsides, on the re-Punt, he blocked that one
- The perennially underrated special teamer Dave Whitsell, accounts exist of up to 9 total blocked kicks in 1961, i can only find evidence for 4 - can you find others
As you might expect, my records get thinner as you go back in history. I'd appreciate any records anyone has prior to 1982, but particularly anything prior to 1970 and particularly prior to 1960.
