The "American Professional Football Conference"

I was browsing the new non-fiction section at the library today and I took out several books, including Harvey Frommer's When It Was Just a Game: Remembering the First Super Bowl.

After quite a bit of front matter, the book finally begins on Page 12, where Mr. Frommer tells us that the "American Professional Football Conference" was founded in 1920 at a meeting in Canton, Ohio.

Near the bottom of the page, he says that the "American Professional Football Conference" was renamed the "National Football League" in 1922.

I honestly don't know if I should bother reading any further.

American Professional Football Conference was the name originally adopted at the first meeting on August 20, 1920. However in the next meeting a month later it was changed to the Association.
