The 1979 Steelers being ambushed 34-10 by the cellar-dwelling Bengals.
Keep in mind that those same 1979 Steelers also lost 35-7 to the San Diego Chargers.

Also, the 1975 Steelers lost to the Buffalo Bills 31-20, giving up over 200 yards rushing to OJ Simpson in the process.

The 1974 Steelers got shut out at home to Oakland 17-0.

I think the 1974 game where the Steelers lost to Houston at home the Sunday after Thanksgiving was a worse effort - six first downs on offense, nine net passing yards, six completions. It was the worst offensive output of the 1972-79 Steeler era. I remember we got hammered with about nine inches of snow that evening but it didn't start until either late in the game or after the game was over.

According to the game stories, the 1974 Oilers game was played in a "steady, freezing rain," which obviously turned to snow. That same day, the Browns and 49ers (both having miserable seasons) drew only 24,000 to Cleveland Stadium, playing in wet snow that turned the game into a mudbath.

The Raiders loss was during the brief Jefferson Street Joe era as a starter.

Newspaper reports are notoriously unreliable but it appears like they got this one right. Half the game was played with snow or ice coming down.

The 1975 Steelers were in the middle of the pack when it came to defensive rushing statistics. OJ had his big day (28 carries, 227 yards) in what might be one of the greatest rushing performances ever considering the opponent, but Jim Braxton also had 80 yards on 14 carries that day. Mike Adamle of the Bears had a 100-yard game against the Steelers, the Rams had 171 yards rushing using their backups.

Yet didn't the whiners from the Raiders claim that the Steelers deliberately watered the turf in the AFC Championship to freeze it, therefore limiting the Oakland passing game. So they could run instead  ?

I always thought it was if pre-'74 Steelers D had a weakness at all, it was vs the run until Lambert was added then it was no longer an issue at all. Against OJ 2nd game of regular season (defending-Champ's 'bull's-eye' on chest every game)...nothing to be too ashamed of. Let's face it, they play again in December, don't you think Steel Curtain clamps on down (as they did vs Juice the previous post-season)?

Yes, and why DID Raiders complain? Yes, Oakland had no Juice, but still...
