Worst 1-15 Team?

Post by CSKreager »

Of all the infamous 1 and only 1 win teams since the schedule expanded to 16 games, who was the worst of the worst?

1980 Saints, 1989 Cowboys, 1990 Patriots, 1991 Colts, 1996 Jets, 2000 Chargers, 2001 Panthers, 2009 Rams.

Have to go with the 1980 Saints because it took that franchise the longest to get to the playoffs after said 1-15 season. Though the 2009 Rams are still on the clock.

I've got to go with the 1990 Pats. The Rod Rust season. Last in points scored. Second to last in points allowed. The 1992 2-14 Seahawks may have been worse than that though... at least on offense. I think I would go with the 1980 Saints as the best 1-15 team ever... if there could be such a thing. Archie had one of his best years. There was that big lead against the up and coming 49ers that they let slip away.

The 1999 expansion Browns have to rank as one of the worst 2-14 teams, given that their two victories came on a Hail Mary and a FG as time expired--after having trailed by eight with less than six minutes left.

Worst of that group - the 2009 Rams. Best, the 2000 Chargers.

Offense aside, the Seahawks weren't even the worst 2-14 TEAM in the NFL in 1992.

Arguably, the 0-16 Detroit Lions of 2008 would be even worse than the worst 1-15 team....

I'd say the 1990 Patriots.

I will go with the 1989 Cowboys for only one reason: no one expected them to win a game before the season, and they nearly didn't. I rank their victory at RFK Stadium as the greatest upset in the regular season in my lifetime.

And I say this as a Cowboys fan.

The 1992 Seahawks had one of the worst offenses of the modern era, on par with the 1974 Falcons and the 1977 Bucs. But the defense was playoff calibre.
