Here we go again ! Another "New Football League"
We all lived thru the promise of the A11 Football League that went silent after claiming a tv deal with ESPN. The "New USFL" that is still saying wait till next year for about the 10th year ! The Gridiron football League that folded in preseason. The AAFL that folded as players were reporting to training camp.
Well another new league is claiming to start this coming spring The MLFB or Major League Football at www.mlfb.com .They also have stuff on youtube talking about the league. They claim draft to occur this January. Anyone know anything about this effort ? Anyone think its like the 4 above that will never actually take the field ?

Considering the last credible league, the USFL, had about 10 months of hype between the first announcement and first game, and this appears to have about two weeks, I doubt it.single wing wrote:We all lived thru the promise of the A11 Football League that went silent after claiming a tv deal with ESPN. The league I liked was the UFL -- the one that existed back in about 2009 and 2010. I think that one was intended as a minor league, rather than a rival for the NFL, but it had a good level of talent and I enjoyed the games I saw. I don't know why it didn't catch on. Maybe it's just too tough to play in the fall when the NFL season is going on.

Teams in eight not-yet-identified cities, lots of mission statements and motivational poster jargon, and what looks like an April 15 launch for a write-off on next year's taxes. Somewhere in there, they mention that they expect to sell tickets for $50 apiece and that they will AVERAGE 15,000 people per game. Well of course they will, because its name is "MAJOR LEAGUE Football" -- just like that 89 cent box of generic macaroni and cheese that's "made from only the finest ingredients".

The North American Football League got hit for scamming players some sources report .The NAFL said it was spring league proudly claiming that NFL coach Jim Fassel is on their board of directors. Well the NAFL had players fork over $160 to attend combines in 2015 but the problem was nobody from the "NAFL" appeared at the sites. So players paid $160 to attend various combines ended up at empty football fields where nobody hosting the combine ever appeared. For a few days NAFL claimed didn't you receive the cancel letter ? After a couple days of that they went silent after claiming all players were repaid.

Looks like things might be a go.
8 Coaches named.
Some name NFL personnel joined the league in the last couple days.
Official dates for MLFB's inaugural draft have been finalized!
January 27th Franchise player
January 28 territorial Draft
January 29 National Draft

I think we'll have a professional league before another professional football league.

Rumors say the following are the league format for 2016 season of MLFB
East
Orlando
Norfolk
Birmingham
Akron
West
Oklahoma City
Little Rock
Portland
Missouri City Texas.
This is not official but seems likely. Additionally the league says another 10 cities will join in season 2.
Missouri City is a late replacement for San Antonio because someone put up 18 million to have a team
in that city. Each team would play 10 games with Division winners and two wild cards advancing to the playoffs.
Season would begin in April .

I don't see how this league will get off the ground, considering their finance 'plans' and apparently being in debt already? I won't believe it until I see it but a few things that I like, so far:
- They didn't try to sucker people in with uniform porn, like most of the announced but never happen 'leagues' - 'leagues' that were obvious to everyone with a clue that were never going to happen. Step 1 or 2 for those 'leagues' always was releasing logos, mock uniforms, etc ... before they even had a business plan. At least this attempt is getting people's hopes up with plans for a league instead of "look at our awesome logos! we kick off next spring/fall", then the project is never heard from again.
- The same handful of football forum spammers seemingly are not involved. Those that follow this stuff know the names/types of people I'm talking about. Really push the hype for the planned 'leagues' and ignore all the failures they've been 'involved' with (wannabe involved, glorified hype men) while they argue with people about how this time it's for real.
Assume if Orlando does get a team that Galen Hall would be the coach, makes sense. Also I'm guessing that the Rubber Bowl would be Akron's stadium? That place could use some tenets - and some upgrades.
Final prognosis, I'm giving this a 0.1% chance of the 'league' getting to and having its first game and a 0.5% chance of lasting through a full first season (if they have a first game.) Compared to my usual 0% and 0% that's correct 100% of the time.
