The Return of PFRA Books, 2014 and beyond

Post by Mark L. Ford »

In the last 18 months, the most important new development in the Professional Football Researchers Association has been the resurrection of the PFRA Books as a publisher of new material, in a format where the PFRA members themselves are the authors of individual chapters (the brand had been re-established with the reprinting of previously published material).

I'm pleased to pass on the announcement from editors George Bozeka, Mark Durr and Chris Willis that, even as the upcoming release of the first of the "Great Teams" series happens this July, work will already be commencing on the second book (to come out in 2018), and a schedule is set for a third book in 2019. All three are to be published by McFarland Books.

The book about the '66 Packers started in the summer of 2014, with PFRA members volunteering to write the detailed player biographies that comprise the chapters. George oversaw the process of coordinating the writing and editing process to follow a consistent model, and the manuscript was submitted on schedule, to McFarland Books, by summer 2015. The plan worked so well that PFRA Books and McFarland will work together over the next few years on books two and three of the series. Without saying more, the call for authors will be coming in April 2016, and work on the third book in the series will commence in March 2017. Kudos to the editors and the authors for their work in the last year and a half in making this a reality.
