Marvin Lewis vs Pittsburgh

Post by King Kong »

Marvin Lewis's record as Bengals head coach vs Pittsburgh in games played in Cincinnati is 2-11.

Who are some other head coaches who were inept vs a particular opponent in home games?

John Robinson was 1-8 at home against the 49ers from 1983-91. That was in the midst of a streak whereby the Rams won one home game against the 49ers from 1981 through 1998. The only Ram win came 16-13 in 1986 as Steve Bartkowski outdueled Jeff Kemp.

Incredibly, Dick Nolan never beat the Los Angeles Rams at home, going 0-10-1 for two different teams.
On November 17, 1968, he was tied in his first home game against the Rams after blowing a 20-10 lead. Twelve years and a week later, he lost to the Rams in New Orleans on November 24, 1980 and was fired as the "Ain'ts" record reached 0-12-0.

As the 49ers coach, 20-20 ('68), 21-27 ('69), 13-30 ('70), 13-20 ('71), 16-26 ('72), 20-40 ('73), 13-15 ('74), 14-23 ('75)
As the Saints' coach, 20-26 ('78), 17-35 ('79) and 7-27 ('80)

Dick Vermeil as coach for the Eagles only won 1 game in 6 tries against the Cowboys at Philadelphia (but he won also the game that mattered the most, the 1980 NFC Championship game).

What about Wannstedt home against Green Bay? After beating the Pack at home in his first season at the Bears' helm in '93, he never won at home vs them again until he was HC at Miami in 2000. Not only did Wanny lose those last 5 meetings at home to GB from '94 through '98, but that very streak extended all through Dick Jauron's Chi-town campaign (yes, even losing at home to the Pack in his tour de force '01 regular season). It wouldn't be until Lovie's second year in '05 that the streak would finally end at 11.
