I recall reading in a pro football history book in 1969 something like: "Jim Brown's 1863 yards in a season is for the next century, not this one." The meaning was Brown's single season record wouldn't be broken until the 21st Century, if then.

I think the writer assumed the season would stay at 14 games.

O.J. broke it in 14 games so the writer was wrong regardless.

Another record who amazes me are the 554 passing yards in a game by Norm Van Brocklin in 1951. In this era, no one has come close to it, unlike the 7-TD passes in a game record.

No team, in my lifetime, will ever give up less than 10 points per game over a three season stretch like the 1969-71 Vikings.
