.....hours of film study of the steelers from 56-59 shows gary g. always giving an effort whether he was at left corner or left safety. he was rock solid in run support, but he just did not have the speed to be a corner. tiny tad weed was not much of a kicker, and gary also struggled in this area. as a redskin he became part of the slowest secondary in the league. when milt davis retired at the end of '60 the colts had a hole at right corner that gary attempted to fill. though he had a 3 interception game against his former team(redskins)....he was replaced in '62....and coached for a year in the afl.....but when the outstanding right safety of the chargers charlie mcneil was injured in '63....el sid came a calling' and gary was able to end his career as a champion.

Is there a backstory as to why the Steelers drafted Glick with their bonus pick? How did they even know who he was? And why did they think he wouldn't have been available in the 2nd round? Glick was also 26 years old when the Steelers selected him.

....rather than conjecture(some steeler histories give reasons), the colorado state website has a short article on gary g. ....so you might want to check that out. when you look at the draft picks available for '56 you cannot help but wonder what "digger o'dell" used as background for his selections. the colts took lenny moore. the bears in the 7th round took jc caroline, and earlier with a "future" took willie the wisp....the steelers needed speed and athleticism...and they just might have gotten some out of the three talented players mentioned above. so all steeler fans can do the what if....unitas is not cut, and throws to moore in pittsburgh, then not needing a qb...no trade for earl m. or drafting dawson in '57....so instead with the 4th pick in the draft was a young stallion fullback at syracuse....who might have been better than fran rogel? unitas, moore, and brown in the same backfield...
