Consecutive games vs inter-conference opponents

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

Of course it can no longer happen in today's format, but what are some examples of two teams not of the same conference playing against each other consecutive years in the regular season. You got Eagles & Bills both squaring off in '84 & '85. You got Jets & Giants in '87 & '88 and had the Jets not finished in 5th in '89, you'd have a 3 for 4 battle of NYC in '90. What are some other examples?

This is most of them, but there might be some gaps. The large number of games in 1977-78 was undoubtedly because of the changes in scheduling, and the addition of two games:

Bucs and Seahawks faced each other in 1976-77, though both were expansion teams

Pats faced the Eagles in 1977-78

Chargers faced the Lions in 1977-78

Raiders faced the Vikings in 1977-78

Jets faced the Eagles in 1977-78

Colts faced the Redskins in 1977-78

Dolphins faced the Cards in 1977-78

Chiefs faced Giants and Bucs in 1978-79

Colts faced Cardinals in 1980-81

Chiefs faced the Lions in 1980-81 and 1987-88

Jets faced Packers in 1981-82

Colts faced Eagles in 1983-84

Broncos faced the Bears in 1983-84

Bills faced Eagles in 1984-85

Chargers faced the Vikings in 1984-85

Jets faced the Bucs in 1984-85 and 1990-91

Chargers faced the Eagles in 1985-86

Colts faced Bucs in 1987-88 and 1991-92

Jets faced Giants in 1987-88

Dolphins faced the Packers in 1988-89

Chiefs faced the Packers in 1989-90

Pats faced the Cards in 1990-91

Jets faced the Bucs in 1990-91

Broncos faced the Vikings in 1990-91

Chargers faced the Bucs in 1992-93

Colts faced the Redskins in 1993-94

Pats faced the Lions in 1993-94

Seahawks faced the Redskins in 1994-95

In the 80s it appeared that Kansas City always visited the Silverdome on Thanksgiving.

Cardinals vs. Broncos, 2001-02
Cardinals vs. Chargers, 2001-02
Cardinals vs. Chiefs, 2001-02
Cardinals vs. Raiders, 2001-02

The Cardinals were evidently an "honorary" member of the AFC West from 2001 to 2002. With the exception that they didn't play the Seahawks in 2001.

How about Steelers (Eastern) playing Bears (Western) in both '58 & '59?
