Seriously Ness?

Simms was part of two championship teams. Has a SB MVP award and a winning starting record despite having FEW weapons to work with. Other than Bavaro, Meggett, Hampton and Morris for a short time, what other offensive players were a threat for the Giants? He also took a beating before Parcells got the offensive line to improve.

Bert Jones was recently inducted to the HoVG. I don't see how Phil Simms and Joe Theismann do not belong. They both should be in as well. Both won at least one Super Bowl, were MVPs like Jones... and Simms and Theismann won far more football games than Jones did.

Jones - 47 career victories
Simms - 95 career victories
Theismann - 77 career victories

@sluggermatt/@Brian/All, What about Tommy Thompson? I've never nominated a QB - maybe he should get a look?

Absolutely! ... Thompson won back-to-back championships after three straight divisional titles. He played with a defective eye! Van Buren or not, how many T-Formation QBs help take their teams to three straight championship games?

I hope Christensen gets his chance this year. Had an endorsement for the HOF from Turney on TOFTWO ...

He's been nominated a few times.

I could vote for Tommy Thompson depending on the ballot. He had one MVP-contender season, if there had been an award that year, and most of the rest was solid for the era. WWII also knocked out a good bit of his career, although in his case it seemed to be in the middle of one his least productive stretches, so that doesn't make as much a difference for him as it would for some. There are easily other QBs I'd nominate over him, all told (I'd like to suggest Frank Ryan in addition to others mentioned), but Thompson isn't a nonfactor. A bit similar to Bert Jones, actually.

My 5 this year:

Larry Brooks
Doug English
Jay Novacek
Riley Odoms
Mike Quick

I believe that the only first-time candidates of note are Nate Newton are Leslie O’Neal, the latter I think will be inducted this year. I also believe Bill Fralic, Chris Hinton and Russ Washington will gain the most votes amongst post-merger offensive linemen, but maybe only one of them will get inducted. I hope George Christensen finally gets inducted, I have nominated him and voted for him every year that he has been in the ballot.

I've enjoyed this thread. It also helped me think through one of my choices. These were my 5:

Backs
John Gammons
Jack McBride

Linemen
George Christensen
Bob Shiring
Herman Kerkhoff

Christensen was already nominated, so I replaced him with Tommy Thompson.

Jack McBride, interesting choice. Does he get nominated often? Haven't seen him make a ballot. If Red Dunn couldn't get in, though, I can't imagine McBride having a better chance.

McBride was ranked 39th in Chris Willis's new book and Dunn 40th, so it's really close. I've nominated both in the past. Hopefully McBride this year will open a spot for me to add Dunn next year :D
