Sharpe was deserving, but you still have to wonder if Baughan and especially, Tyrer, were hung out to dry to ensure his election? I hope I am wrong because I really felt the voters would bring in Baughan but these young voters probably arent going to elect someone they havent seen or researched?
Its back to the drawing board for the senior committee. Could Ken Anderson get his chance next year? Can Baughan or Tyrer inch closer, or does the BRP/Committee move on from players before 1975?

Modern HOF candidates are not my wheelhouse, but I always look at number of seasons with postseason honors first and I only count 6 for Gates. That's actually less than a lot of the players who were on this year's HOVG ballot. How was his blocking?
Re: PFHOF 2025: a four-man class
There were anti-candidate campaigns among voters that the Hall will have to address, but the bigger issue to me is not necessarily voter choice but the system itself. The math was always going to limit inductees this year, and a ton of voters simply did not realize, as some of them are stating already.Brian wolf wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 12:54 am Sharpe was deserving, but you still have to wonder if Baughan and especially, Tyrer, were hung out to dry to ensure his election? Gates was awesome! 3x AP AP1 puts him fourth among tight ends since 2000:TanksAndSpartans wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 10:54 am Modern HOF candidates are not my wheelhouse, but I always look at number of seasons with postseason honors first and I only count 6 for Gates. * Gonzalez - 2000, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2012
* Gronkowski - 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017
* Kelce - 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022
* Gates - 2004, 2005, 2006
* Witten - 2007, 2010
* Kittle - 2019, 2023
* Shockey - 2002
* Dallas Clark - 2009
* Graham - 2013
* Andrews - 2021
Good blocker. Not Gronk, but good. His big stat is 116 TDs.
Researcher Bryan Frye has Gates ranked 8th all-time among TEs and 150th among all players all-time. Easy HOFer.

With his blocking, Witten should be first ballot next year but we know it wont happen. Gronk will be 1st ballot in 2027. Graham has a case with his TDs but was a head case for different teams. Free agency can actually hurt players, if theyre just wanting signing bonuses without staying consistenly good ...
Re: PFHOF 2025: a four-man class
Salute to Witten but he absolutely does not need to be in next year, even with a five-man class.Brian wolf wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 12:18 pm With his blocking, Witten should be first ballot next year but we know it wont happen. How about Eric Allen? Aren't there some better CBs not in the HOF? Allen is 29th in the PFJ ranking.
P.S. Jack I respect your opinion - you make a good argument on Gates, but one last thing. I hate stats (this isn't baseball after all), but Gates only had 2-3 seasons where he was around 80 catches and 1,000 yards right? Seems low to me.
