Mel Farr and the gun camera

This is Detroit Lion Mel Farr wearing a helmet fitted with a "gun camera". I don't know anything more about the photo and I'm hoping someone here can fill in the details like when and why this was done. The source (9GAG) didn't provide any information.

Yep, that technology sure helped the Broncos on the field. Haha ... I would take that helmet the linemen wore over a white one.

Farr's was used to get player's perspective for the film "Paper Lion".

it was operated by remote control and Farr would just play
