Miller Farr, former safety and cornerback with the Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, Houston Oilers, St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Lions died on July 18, at the age of 80:

Johnny Lujack, former quarterback and defensive back with the Chicago Bears (1947 Heisman Trophy recipient) died on July 25, at the age of 98:

Imagine had Lujack kept playing? His ability allowed the Bears to move on from Bobby Layne, one of the worst mistakes in franchise history but they still had Luckman as well in 1949. In 1950, Lujack was named All-Pro despite throwing 4TDs and 21 INTS!

I remember Johnny Lujack as an analyst on pro and college football games on TV in the 60s. He was wearing a fedora, very articulate.

Really sad to hear this. I got to interview him a few years back. Really nice guy, too - was really gracious. Very thankful to have gotten to connect with him. He was the oldest living Heisman winner.

I think Lujack still holds the Bears’ record for most passing yards in a game. I think one would have to be at least 88 years old to have played for Frank Leahy at Notre Dame if Frank’s last season was ‘53?
