Steelers in 1965 Really Bad

Post by LeonardRachiele »

To say the Steelers had a bad team in subject year would be putting it mildly. At 2-12, this was a second of eight consecutive losing seasons. We will look at some facts:

–scored only 24 touchdowns an average of only 1.7 touchdowns per game;
–had only one running back gain over 100 yards in a game; at Cleveland Dick Hoak gained 107 yards in 15 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 14, 44, and 4 yards;
–did not score a touchdown in two games both at home; a 41 to 9 loss to the Green Bay Packers and a 31 to 3 loss to the Washington Redskins;
–did not score at all in the second half of six games;
–threw 35 interceptions against only 12 interceptions made;
–lost 24 fumbles against 15 recovered.

Just prior to the 1957 season Buddy Parker resigned as Head Coach of the Detroit Lions and the team went on to an NFL Title. Now he resigned prior to the 1965 season at Pittsburgh. This time he know what he was doing.
