One Play can be a Trigger

Post by LeonardRachiele »

Not knowing if one play can turn a game around.   Judge for yourself with these three Eagles victories.  They were all at home

1981 Washington.  John Riggins bulled in for a touchdown with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.  This narrowed the to 14 to 13 in Philadelphia's favor. Wally Henry took the ensuing kick to the Washington 42.    The fun began.  On the next play, Ron Jaworski fired at 42 yard  touchdown pass to Charlie Smith.  This made Redskin defensive back Lamar Parrish look  foolish. Reggie Wilkes intercepted a pass.  Tony Franklin kicked two field goal. Defensive Lineman Ken Clark tackled Joe Theisman for a safety.   Redskin coach relieved Theisman with Mike Flick.  Charlie Johnson jolted the ball from Flick.  Greg Brown recovered the football and ran a short distance for a defensive touchdown.    Philadelphia 36 Washington 13.

2001 Playoffs vs Tampa Bay.  The Buccaneers were leading 3 to 0 in the second quarter.  Defensive Lineman Hugh Douglas sacked Brad Johnson.  Johnson fumbled and the Eagles recovered.  Tampa gained only 199 yards the whole game.  Eagles won 21 to 3.

2003 Dallas.  The Cowboys tied the Eagles at 10 just before halftime.  On the opening series of the second half, Sheldon Brown  intercepted wobbly pass from Quincy Carter. Carter threw it under a heavy blitz.  A few plays later, Duce Staley ran for a touchdown.  A snap from center flew over Carter's head over the end line for a safety.  Donovan McNabb passed to L. J. Smith for a touchdown.  David Ackers kicked a field goal.  Correll Buckwalter ran 64 yards for a touchdowns.  The Cowboys were dizzy after the game. Philadelphia  36 Dallas 10.
