1970 Season
In reviewing the schedule for that year, I noticed there were several early Saturday games and even a Friday night game that kicked off the season. The Friday night game was Rams-Cardinals and the following night the Bears played the Giants. A couple weeks later the Dolphins played the Raiders and the Browns played the Steelers in Saturday night games. And then in Week 4, the Dolphins played the Jets on a Saturday night. Were these games originally scheduled for those dates (if so why) or possibly due to conflicts with MLB games? Thanks for any responses.

They were scheduled that way.

The Saturday night opener to start the season wasn't unprecedented. The Colts and Packers kicked off the 1966 season on a Saturday night in Milwuakee on September 10th.

Vikings/Falcons also did so in 1968, Saturday night opener.

Did the NFL and College football not really have the partnership then that they do now to not be competition for each other?

It's not really a partnership, it's a federal law: The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.lastcat3 wrote:Did the NFL and College football not really have the partnership then that they do now to not be competition for each other?
