The 1975 Buffalo Bills. Arguably the best offense in football that year, but an awful defense doomed them to 8-6.

Worst starting QB in the league. In 2009 they threw for something like 2500 yards as a team.

Best defense in football and a great running game. Pitiful trying to throw the ball. The offense however was functional because of that run game and line. If they had something resembling a competent QB...11-5 or maybe even 12-4
The Colts helped them out both years. If they didn't bench their starters in the second half (of their Week 16 matchup with NYJ) in 2009, or if they didn't have a special teams lapse in 2010 (letting Cromartie get a good return after they got a FG to take the lead), the Jets don't become anything, and Rex is probably gone two or three years earlier.

1967 Redskins. Charley Taylor, Bobby Mitchell and Jerry Smith finished 1, 2 and 5 in the league in receiving, and Sonny Jurgensen had a then NFL record passing season, but they had no running game or defense, and finished 5-6-3.

1963 Bears: Top defense in the league, 10th best offense. Allowed less than 10 points in eight games and scored 17 points or less in eight games.

The 2013 San Diego Chargers. Best offense in the league that year (even better than the Broncos, by AYPD), but also worst defense in the league by the same masure.

What's sad is that their 2010 team was better, except for lousy special teams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAL5X3TRA2A
