*There were 7 HOF starting offensive players between the the two teams, including each quarterback, but only one of those players appeared in a Super Bowl (and lost).
*Another offensive player isn't in the Hall of Fame, but started in 4 Super Bowls (for another team).
*The winning team scored four touchdowns (all rushing) between two running backs, one of them who gained 1,000 rushing yards that season, while the other finished the season with another team (who happened to reach the Super Bowl that year). Both of them had 1,000 rushing yards seasons with other teams.
*One touchdown for the losing team was from a WR who gained 1,000 receiving yards that season, and also the previous season gained 1,000 yards (he was not chosen for the Pro Bowl each year). He played a total of 7 NFL seasons, all with the same team, but never reached 700 receiving yards in the other 5 seasons.
*One official, the umpire, played with those two teams, then became one of the few officials who went on to work in 5 Super Bowls.

Okay, I think I've got it.
1984 Chargers vs. Oilers
Chargers HOFers - Fouts, Winslow, Joiner
Oilers HOFers - Moon, Campbell, Munchak and Matthews. The latter would later make Super Bowl 34 as a Titan.

Chargers TDs scored by Earnest Jackson (1,000 yards) and Pete Johnson. Johnson would finish the year as a Dolphin and go to SB 19.

Tim Smith was the 1,000 yard Oilers receiver.

Not sure of the identity of the umpire.

That was a tough one. I worked on it for well over an hour.

Don't forget, I've still got an unanswered game on the board.

I checked the gamebook - Ron Bochan was the Umpire, played for the 1960 Chargers and 1961 Oilers.

Correct! The umpire was Ron Botchan (no. 110), who played as a linebacker in 1960-1961 for both teams.

Ed White was the 4-time Súper Bowl starter for the Vikings, who was the right tackle for the Chargers in that game (he usually played guard).

White didn't start Super Bowl IV though.

Oooops, you're right, I'm sorry. I didn't remember that the late JIm Vellone started at left guard.

Ed White, Roy Winston and Fred Cox (although he was the kicker).

I don't remember if Bobby Bryant played in Super Bowl IX (He missed nearly all of the 1974 season).

Bumping this on behalf of Todd. I am stumped on this one!.........

The two starting quarterbacks each had Super Bowl rings, both earned with different teams.

The winning team's quarterback had formerly played for the losing team.

A backup QB for the winning team saw action, who would in later years play for the losing team.

A player had a hat trick for the winning team, scoring three touchdowns. This player had also been a member of the Super Bowl winning squad of the losing team's QB.

The winning team's second to last TD was scored by a player who would finish with over 100 TDs in his career.

For the player who scored the winning team's last TD, it would be the only one of his career.

The only TD scored by the losing team was by a player who would later play for the winning team.

Finally, the losing team's coach had formerly coached the winning team! (are you keeping all this straight)?

I love riddles and this took me a few hours but I finally solved it. I have the correct answer for you.

The game is Sunday, September 30, 2001 Kansas City Chiefs at Washington Redskins. The Chiefs won, 45-13.

Starting QBs with Super Bowl rings - Trent Green for Kansas City (ring with 1999 St. Louis Rams) and Tony Banks for Washington (ring with 2000 Ravens). Trent Green formerly played for Washington in 1997 and 1998, where he started 14 games over those two seasons.

Kansas City's backup QB, Todd Collins saw action, going 3 of 4 for 40 yards and rushing twice for 6 yards. Collins later played for Washington in 2007 and 2009.

Priest Holmes had the "hat trick", recording two rushing touchdowns, and hauling in a receiving score, for a total of three touchdowns. Holmes was a member of the 2000 Ravens, and a Raven from 1997-2000.

Kansas City's second to last TD was scored on a 3-yard pass from Trent Green to Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez had 111 career receiving touchdowns.

The Chief who scored the team's final TD was Chris Thomas, a 3-yard pass from Green, his only career touchdown.

Rod Gardner scored Washington's only touchdown on a 26-yard pass from Banks. Gardner played for the Chiefs later on, in 2009.

The Redskins' coach was Marty Schottenheimer, who coached Kansas City from 1993-1998.
