Former head linesman Jerry Bergman Sr. died on May 15th. He was 87 years old.

Bergman was active from 1966 through 1995, and worked 4 Super Bowls (after the 1978, 1981, 1983 and 1988 seasons) and another 4 Conference Championship games (after the 1980, 1982, 1984 and 1990 seasons). He wore uniform number 17 and his two sons Jerry Jr. and Jeff are current NFL officials.

Perhaps he is most famous for a controversial call in a Miami-Buffalo MNF game in 1975. where he overturned a Dolphins fumble. After the game, many funny letters made their way to Bergman's house in Pittsburgh, one addressed only to "Blind as a Bat" and another by a woman thanking Bergman for making her husband hate football!

It was actually just a Week 12 late Sunday game that got wide coverage on NBC
