Rupert Patrick, on 14 Jun 2014 - 12:32 AM, said:
Noll took a team who was outscored 92-10 in the first two weeks and his boys did not give up, winning five of their last six to snag the fifth seed. In the wild card game, they defeated an Oilers team they did not stack up well against on paper, and nearly upset the Broncos in the Divisional round. The 1972 and 1974 team had a lot of young stars, but Bubby Brister and Merril Hoge beat a HOF QB in the playoffs and nearly beat another, both on the road.

I liked the Steelers as a youth. I was rooting for them to beat Denver. I was tired of Denver stinking it up in Super Bowls and a Pittsburgh at Cleveland AFC title game would have been a treat. Plus, it would have featured Noll vs Bud Carson.

I have found absolutely nothing either.
Sometimes these happen and there is no obituary, just the team getting word of mouth from another alumni or family member.

One of the all-time greats. #7 should have been retired for Sprinkle and not Halas.

When a player made a good play, he didn't jump up and down.
Those kinds of plays were expected."
