Grey Cup Trivia

Post by JohnH19 »

With our Winnipeg Blue Bombers going for their third straight Grey Cup championship on Sunday, here’s some trivia related to the team and its’ Grey Cup history:

1. This will be the first Grey Cup meeting between Winnipeg and Toronto since the infamous 1950 Mud Bowl.

2. The two teams played in the game six times between 1937 and 1950 with the Argonauts winning them all.

3. The last 10 Grey Cup games that Winnipeg represented the West against an Eastern team, dating back to 1953, were all against Hamilton.

4. Bud Grant’s Blue Bombers played Hamilton in the 1957, 58, 59, 61 and 62 Grey Cup games, winning the last four. The 1960 game featured an Ottawa-Edmonton matchup. Ironically, the 1960 club was Bud’s best Winnipeg team. Edmonton pulled a big upset in the best of three Western Final. It could have and should have been five championships in a row to match Edmonton’s run from 1978-82.

5.The Blue Bombers were in the Eastern Division for several years, while Montreal or Ottawa were without teams. Winnipeg played all four remaining Western Division teams in the Grey Cup between 1988 and 2011.

6. Winnipeg has not played Ottawa in the Grey Cup since 1941.

7. Incredibly, Winnipeg has never played Montreal in the Grey Cup game.
