Re: '68 Packers expectations

Grabowksi tore ligaments in his knee in 1967 and was never the same again. The jury is still out as to how good he might have been. The surgery techniques were just not there in 1967 and there were numerous careers that were ruined that would have been saved today. I don't think Grabowski ever woul...

Re: '68 Packers expectations

He may also have led them to a better record but we'll never know. I would never underestimate St. Vincent, though. He wasn't really St. Vincent yet, but NFL Films was working on it. They and the NFL decided to canonize him after his death. Funny thing, St. Vincent was enraged at Jim Taylor for pla...

Re: '68 Packers expectations

The 1968 Packers might have missed Don Chandler more than Vince Lombardi. Absolutely. Lombardi was the Packer GM in 1968. With so many over 30 players, they probably wouldn't have done much better with Lombardi still the head coach. I wouldn't bet on that. George Allen had a fair amount of success ...

Re: Is Dickerson trade REALLY to blame for Rams' downfall?

The Rams didn't get much from the draft picks received in the trade. Had they done so, they could have been a top team through 1994 and not moved to St. Louis. Dickerson admitted in the program, he really preferred LA to Indianapolis. Had he still been with the Rams, could they have made the Super B...

Re: Throwing the ball into the stands

I recall a lot of players throwing the ball in the stands after touchdowns in 1968 college football games. It seemed to be a fad that year. I recall a highlight clip of Oklahoma's Steve Owens tossing the ball in the stands after a big TD. In 1965, a sophomore at the University of Tennessee named Wal...

Re: '68 Packers expectations

Some 1968 Packers questions: Weren't Grabowski and Anderson super-hyped to carry the load to continue the Packer dynasty? I thought it was considered a huge coup that Lombardi signed both before he left. Anybody ever seen a picture of Errol Mann on the 1968 Packers? Just wondering if one exists. Wa...

Re: Reconciling the whole Browns/Ravens issue

I've read that Art Modell wanted the team to be called the Baltimore Browns, but the fans in Baltimore would not have it. So they had to come up with a new name, which became "Ravens."
