Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Rozelle_Radio-Television_Award This is the hall of fame for NFL announcers and executives. To me, there's one incredibly glaring omission: Greg Gumbel. He was the first black announcer to call a Super Bowl (he called two), he was CBS's #1 announcer for six seasons,...

Re: How come the Super Bowl hasn't gone back to the Rose Bowl

I was at the Rose Bowl in 2017. It is an incredibly antiquated stadium, even after its renovations. There are huge traffic jams in the tunnels that prevent people outside the stands from getting to their seats and vice versa. It is a spectacular sight for a football game, a great atmosphere, and it ...

Re: Eagles defeat Giants 33 to 25

Funny, I decided to take a nap at 20-3 because I thought it was over. I was surprised to learn that not only did New York come back, but that they had a legitimate shot at tying the game late.

Re: Teams/divisions swap(s)

Why is it automatically assumed that Dallas will or should be in the NFC East? The Cowboys don't belong in the East any more than the Colts belonged in the West Division back in the sixties. I get sick of seeing the NFL cater to the Cowboys in everything. The Dallas Cowboys are not America's Team b...

Re: Teams/divisions swap(s)

While I don't think they're going to change any divisions under the current format, I do think that the idea of realigning divisions is important, should the league expand again. Logistically, it would make sense to grow by four teams. (I know, I know, bad QB play, not enough players... just work wi...

Re: Do non-CFP bowls matter?

To everything there are pros and cons. Personally, I'm glad that the so-called "Football Bowl Subdivision" (FBS) is moving to a 12-team playoff to determine the national champion. If you're gonna determine a national champion in something you SHOULD have it played on the field and include...

Re: WRs who could/should have won MVP

The 1987 MVP race was a classic case of the Ross Perot effect. Jerry Rice and Joe Montana were so outstanding that voters didn't know which one to give the award to. They got 48 combined votes, whereas John Elway got the remaining 36. Rice, who set the NFL record for receiving TDs in a season despit...

Re: John Madden

John Madden's greatest legacy is the video game. By putting his name on the video game, he legitimized it, while forcing EA Sports to have 11 players per team or else he wasn't doing it. The video game exploded in popularity, and now (even with the annual cries of how the game stinks) it is a cultur...

Thursday oddity

The Packers and Lions are playing each other on Thursday for a second time this season. Has this ever happened before, where two teams met on Thursdays twice in the same season? Or have two teams met on Monday night twice in the same year?

Re: NFL's only 4-point game (100 years ago)

As an aside, I think the hardest score possible in football is 10-1. That requires a one-point defensive safety (which would never realistically happen) and then it would require two more safeties for the leading team without any other points. You could simulate a million games and that score wouldn...
