Re: Who played the most NFL football?

The two examples given speak to Ralph's point. Steve Owen often swapped out entire units with the change of quarters starting in the later 1930s and that included Hein. Baugh frequently alternated quarters with Filchock and other tailbacks/qbs.

Re: Present at the Creation:...

I reviewed it back in July for Library Journal. A very good read. One thing that's been mentioned on the forum a while back was the first televised draft in 1976(?). This book gives the full story on that since Bell set it up with the Boston PBS station he was working for at the time. Lots of good s...

Re: Packers' all-time Hall of Fame team

With the Notre Dame Box, the offense comes out in a T and shifts to something resembling the single wing but with a balanced line. In the years that Dunn was there, Lambeau had them stay in the T most of the time and Dunn got most of the snaps under center. The other backs would also get snaps, but ...

Re: 2017 Obituaries

I posted a comment noting the error and request for an accurate photo (with links to accurate photos, cited) at http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/05/14/former-packer-clarence-williams-dies-at-70/. It was there for less than an hour before someone (moderator?) deleted it ... the incorrect pho...

Re: Lavvie Dilweg and the Bears

Off the top of my head, I think Halas wanted Dilweg to sign thru the 1927 season but Dilweg wanted to leave his options open. I would have to doublecheck that, though.

Spoiler alert: an ideal match of author and subject

Re: 1920 Staleys Jersey Numbers

Most of these are in my book Uniform Numbers of the NFL. I had Chamberlin and Cozelman, but not Shoemaker or Keefe. I have Driscoll wearing 20. I also have a typo on Minton wearing 20 in 1921-22 rather than 1920-21. Keefe I only have playing for the Chicago Tigers. I stand corrected on that. Thanks.

Re: Who's the person to ask a Phil.Eagles question?

I'll take a look in my files tomorrow, but I'm not optimistic. It sounds like something that would have been in some generic Who is the Best MLB today article in a magazine like Sport. If you really think it was in a book,I would try to find a copy of Great Linebackers of the NFL by Richard Kaplan, ...
