Re: 2023 - and 2021 - more 1980 than 1980??
Nobody was better than 10-3 at this point in 1979 (Hou., Pitt., S.D.), 1993 (NYG), 2002 (Phil., G.B., T.B.), or 2014 (N.E., Den., G.B., Ariz.).

Re: random Overtime/Kicker question
That '83 game resulted in one of John McKay's better tirades. “Capece is kaput. We will not kick a field goal next week if we are on the 2-yard line, the 1-yard line, none.”

Re: The Stupidity Of Thursday Night Football
The end goal, probably, is an 18-game schedule with two bye weeks and a game on every night of the week. I'm sure a scheduling wizard could see to it that no team has fewer than six days' rest between games. It would destroy the rhythm of a football season that we've known for a century, but big dea...

Re: The Stupidity Of Thursday Night Football
Richard Sherman went off at length a few years ago about how impossible it is for players to be physically ready to play Thursday after a Sunday game. Re: Packers/Steelers history
That 2010 GB-NE Sunday nighter is the game I always think of whenever anyone claims that there's no such thing as moral victories. The trouble is that most moral victories can’t be recognized as such until well after the fact. But if you ask the players on almost any Super Bowl champion team, they p...

Yep. It's been established previously, but never made more clear: It was a fantastically lucky play, but not the least bit illegal.

Re: 1985 49ers
(Keep in mind the Giants were also 10-6 and they didn’t play each other, so why didn’t SF get the tiebreaker)? I presume it's because they had the better conference record (8-4 vs. 7-5). San Francisco held the advantage in both points for/against and record against common opponents, but I believe t...
