Re: Winning matters - not whining
The '63 Chargers were indeed the first team to systematically use steroids. It started at the Chargers' training camp at Rough Acres. Supposedly the players were told that they'd be fined an exhibition paycheck if they refused to take the drugs. Very dark stuff!

Re: 1920's Vintage Football Game Rock Island
I really hope that NFL does something to honor Rock Island in 2019. To me the ultimate would be a Bears vs. Cardinals exhibition game at Rock Island Public Schools Stadium. As Mark already mentioned. The league's first-ever game that counted was at Douglas Park. RI's game wasn't against a league opp...

Re: SHULA vs PARCELLS
After his 8-season stint with the Giants, Parcells couldn't stay long with one team because players got sick of his insults and his deceit. His record was basically mediocre over his last 11 seasons and he had a 3-5 record in the playoffs. I wouldn't rank him anywhere near Shula. I'd hardly say Par...

Re: Brady fights on
Speaking of the Raiders. There was a time when Pete Rozelle indirectly threatened to kick the Raiders out of the league if they went ahead with their move to L.A. I'd hate to see that kind of rhetoric over deflategate.

Re: GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYERS BY JERSEY NUMBER
Not too many choices I'd disagree with. Although I would've taken Charles Woodson over Deion Sanders at jersey No. 2.

Re: Brady fights on
This whole thing is a real slippery slope for the NFL. The league has made a solid case, but I doubt they'll ever get Tom Brady or the Patriots to admit fault. Say the Patriots defy the league and start Brady in Week One. What's the NFL's next step then? It's kind of crazy, but one or two more radic...

Weeb was also Shula's head coach when Don played for the Colts. It was only a few years later when Shula succeeded Weeb as the Colts' head coach. Those two certainly had a lot of history.

Re: Did you know they play football in Russia?
Back in the late '80s there were rumors that the Cardinals and Vikings would play a preseason game in Moscow. In 1990, a team from the U.S.S.R. called the Moscow Bears played a few games in America. They were led by former Broncos head coach John Ralston. They were outscored 186-0 in their first fou...

Re: Postseason matchups that you would have liked to seen...
'31 - Packers vs. Spartans This was before the NFL had a "postseason", but it's still too bad that the two best teams in '31 never faced each other. I don't remember the details offhand, but Portsmouth wanted to play Green Bay for the championship and the Packers refused. '43 - Phil-Pitt S...

Re: No more NFL Record and Fact Book?
It seems everything is later this season with Labor Day falling on the 7th. The Colts, Eagles, and Lions don't even start training camp until August.
