Re: George Blanda 2000 not 2002 Points?

So... I’ll address the white elephant in the room. The NFL’s official total for Blanda is 2002, not 2000. It was even a record at one point. It seemed sort of “mythical” to me as a kid poring over lists of records. Similar to Simpson’s 2003 rushing yards. Do we, as the PFRA want to spearhead an eff...

George Blanda 2000 not 2002 Points?

Working on tracking down details of missed PATs (amongst other things) and noticed that Bill Tobin was listed in PFRA linescores with kicking two PATs for Houston on 12/8/1963. Oddly, the official stats (well, those on nfl.com) say George Blanda kicked all of Houston's PATs that year. Double checked...

Re: Blocked kick run for a first down for offense ...

It's one of those stat rules that really make no sense - it's a first down rushing even though Laslavic gets no credit for a rushing attempt, etc.[/quote] That's right. The NFL game book recorded it as 4-2 C-28 Roberts punt blocked by Hayes, recovered by Laslavic at 23 turns to 32 for 9 FIRST DOWN R...

Re: Blocked kick run for a first down for offense ...

In the 1981 Monday Night season finale, San Diego's George Roberts had his punt blocked by Oakland. San Diego's Jim Laslavic recovers the ball and runs a few yards for a first down. Questions: How is the play scored? What category does Laslavic's yardage go under (rushing yards, return yards, somet...

Re: End of the Extra Point as we know it?

How about getting rid of the placement kick on PATs and forcing teams to drop kick for a one-point conversion?
Or forcing the player who scores a TD to kick?

Re: Bob Gladieux Called from Stands

Well, Johnny Outlaw (love that name) was also "called from the stands" for that game for the Patriots. Apparently, he and Gladieux were cut on September 14 and then re-signed and were placed on the inactive list and then at the last minute re-activated for that game - a practice that I bel...

1972 All-Rookie Team

A former player (Bubba Pena) emailed asking me which All-Rookie team he was named to in 1972.
Does anyone have this info?

Re: Colts Propose 9-point Play?

currently LBers can wear 90-99. But not 60-79 . . . Inactive List - reduce the minimum from 6 to 3, allowing 50 active on gameday. Allows for more depth at positions where you have an existing injury concern and means that fewer starters would need to play on Special Teams. Inactive players get pai...

Re: End of the Extra Point as we know it?

I imagine that some of that is tongue-in-cheek. Regarding extra points, I've heard John express it, and I feel the same way -- I would be okay without the extra point, because it really is too routine right now (99% success rate) and kicking from 32 yards out (ball spotted on 15, snapped back to th...
