Re: PFRA Awards

Thank you so much for the honor! The fact that I finally got "War Football" published after 15 years of trying was reward enough, but the Nelson Ross Award confirms that this was a story worth telling. Congrats also to Ryan (I loved your CC article!) and to the late Rupert. Looking forwar...

Re: XFL rules differences

As with all other sports during the past week, the 2020 XFL season is suspended indefinitely. If it isn't rescheduled, these were the final standings: West Division: Houston Roughnecks (5-0), Dallas Renegades (2-3), Los Angeles Wildcats (2-3), Seattle Dragons (1-4) East Division: DC Defenders, St. L...

Re: Sharron Hunts Super Ball

The "super ball" story is half a century old, and even Hunt told a reporter, "I don't know how I came up with it" but added that "I think it must be related to a ball which was popular with the kids at the time. It was called a super ball." He added, "Kinda silly, ...

Re: Sharron Hunts Super Ball

I imagine that, like most toys, the historical significance of that Wham-O product wasn't realized at the time and that, like most bouncing spherical toys, it got lost. Chances are, it rolled into a storm drain on a Kansas City street in the spring of 1967, then floated out to sea on the Missouri Ri...

Re: XFL rules differences

Interesting ideas, but the possibility of a touchdown and conversion for 9 points, the soccer-like "shootout" for overtime and the "catch-up" chance are a bit too far out.

Re: Rupert Patrick

I'm sorry to hear the news about Rupert Patrick. I first met him at the 2008 PFRA meeting in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, after PFRA revived the tradition of biennial meetings. It's my understanding that Rupert was one of the few people who had been at all the PFRA conventions this century, whether in...

Re: NFL 100 Worst QBs

Let's do this. I see it working something like this: each poster nominates 5 names they'd like to see on the "top" 10, until 25 different QBs have been nominated by at least three different people. Then I/someone else will collect the qualifiers and put them on a Google form, where you ca...

Re: PFRA in the News

I hate to hear of his passing. Hearing Zeke Bratkowski and Bob Long talk about their careers was one of the most entertaining highlights of being in Green Bay. Both really nice guys.

Re: 1920: Who really WAS the best?

The Akron Pros, who actually made the recent NFLN's Top 100 of all-time list, were awarded league champions with their 8-0-3 record giving up a season grand total of 7 points (all seven surrendered to the Cleveland Tigers in a Week #8 tie)! However both the Decatur Staleys and the Buffalo All-Ameri...

Re: Breaking News: Election Results

In this case, I'll add, "thank you" to Nick Webster and Ken Crippen for both running a good campaign, and "thanks" to Jeffrey Miller for your usual fine job of managing the voting process. By now, most of us have been bombarded with negative political ads from everybody on Tuesda...
