Re: NFL Controversial Plays Prior to 1960

Bo Russell's field goal attempt that was ruled no good in the final game of the 1939 season -- that was a big one, similar to Don Chandler's game-tying kick in the 1965 playoff game. It put the Giants in championship game rather than the Redskins. I recall reading that a Redskins fan who was at the...

Re: Obscure trivia

I have to say this question turned out to be harder than I thought it was when I first saw it!

Re: Obscure trivia

They were called Divisions prior to 1949. Unless I am missing something I do not see a real change after the change of the name so it seems more a matter of semantics to me.

Re: 1979 Steelers onside kicks

For every "storyline" that happens I would think many people would come up with tons of potential "storylines" that would have been just as good if not better.

Re: Toughest/Easiest schedules in football history

I would think most teams have had a majority of their wins vs. non=playoff teams so "9 out of 14 wins were against non-PO teams" doesn't sound bad to me. Looking at Pro Football reference the 1991 Redskins strength of schedule was +.31. Looking through the seasons that appears higher than ...

Re: Games with deceptive final scores

How about the two Lions-Redskins games from 1991? The first was 45-0 which sounds bad enough but I think it could have easily been 70-0. The Lions seemed to be outclassed at every level. Gibbs ran up the score just as he did against Atlanta in November. If I were Wayne Fontes, I wouldn’t have shake...

Re: Best pair of games between division opponents in same se

The Niner-Saints games in 1988 affected Montana's career as well. The Saints beat them in the Super Dome, where Montana banged his elbow on the hard turf, that lingered the rest of his playing days, then the Niners beat them at the Stick that allowed them to win their division, where they put it al...
