Re: (More) Thoughts on Super Bowl V
I can't wait until someone who's had the entire game in his or her attic all this time simply gives it to the NFL and allow the whole telecast to be available. Of course the entire 4th quarter all the way to Virginia Halas giving the Trophy to the Colts in the locker room (include commercials too)....

Re: The Pressure on Place Kickers
Fraser did well enough that Jack Faulker used him to punt and "was being groomed" to kick field goals--that was at midseason 1962. I watched the 1962 Broncos highlight film on YouTube recently and was really impressed with Gene Mingo. I can see why Fraser didn't take over placekicking dut...

Re: The Pressure on Place Kickers
RIP Jim Turner Two people came into his life and helped give him a pretty good kicking career. Weeb Ewbank, who signed him as a free agent and Babe Parilli, who helped give him a great year and SB Championship in 1968 ... Being a backup QB as well as kicking, Turner could be ornery, moody, even hos...

Re: SB matchups you're glad we didn't get
Broncos vs. Redskins Super Bowl XXVI. That would have been another disaster for Denver.

Re: The Pressure on Place Kickers
I am surprised that this factoid is so obscure, considering Fraser predated the Gogolak's. I found a photo of Fraser soccer-styling a kickoff in 1962; but I did not know he did this until you mentioned it just now. Even in my Barely Audible book which details the AFL Denver Broncos and has a profil...

Re: Awards from Clubs added - for anyone intere
the PFWA-NY's Kapp in 69 and Alworth in 65, shows a bit of a different take. Those type of selections make things interesting. In addition to Kapp's N.Y. Chapter award and Detroit News POY honor, I have him down for these: *1969 NFL Player of the Year* Touchdown Club of Utica, NY Pro Football Guide...

Re: Awards from Clubs added - for anyone intere
I stand corrected. It's been a long time since I looked and forgot - when they announced the PFWA All-Pro team they named Starr MVP, Roland ROY and Landry Coach. If I'd have just looked at the spreadsheet, I'd have known . . . so both the NY chapter and the PFWA as a whole had awards. So I need to ...

Re: Awards from Clubs added - for anyone intere
That's interesting, thanks for checking. At this point I'm leaning toward N.Y. Chapter award only. Also, if they want to get technical---didn't become MVP until 1969. Was POY before that, but it is my view that the terms were interchangeable then. I don't think UPI was NOT choosing the MVP by desig...

Re: Awards from Clubs added - for anyone intere
1. When the winners were announced in 1966 it was "by the New York Chapter of the Pro Football Writers' Association." 2. If they have information that says it was by the PFWA as a whole, I am not aware of it. It's possible they have internal files that show it was an association-wide awar...

Re: Awards from Clubs added - for anyone intere
Question: Was Bart Starr's 1966 PFWA MVP selection a N.Y. Chapter award only or was it a vote of the full membership? The PFWA website lists Starr as their first MVP winner in 1966 (none of the N.Y. Chapter award winners are credited): https://www.profootballwriters.org/on-field-awards/pfwa-nfl-most...
