Re: First-time eligibles for HOF Class of 2017 include:
I do not think Darren Woodson is worthy of HOF recognition at all. His postseason honors look competitive with his peers. No idea how he looks in film study -- anybody know? Randy Gradishar ... something just does not make sense re: his omission after all this time. The same can be said about Jerry...

I do not think Darren Woodson is worthy of HOF recognition at all. Randy Gradishar must have raped 40 of the HOF voters' wives/significant others; something just does not make sense re: his omission after all this time. The same can be said about Jerry Kramer, Dilweg, Slater, Johnny Robinson (among ...

Re: "The Forgotten Four".....
Fair enough.
Given all the success Slater had as a linemen (six All-Pro selections) in an obvious terrible era for African Americans, and how he thrived off the field after his playing days, I should think he deserved to be mentioned. He was a better pro player than Robeson.

Re: "The Forgotten Four".....
HA! I guess I should have been more specific in my original post. Since they referenced Pollard, Bobby Marshall, Robeson....I think Slater should have been mentioned.

Re: A 6-year HOF plan, just wow
Of course, the College Football Hall of Fame brings the pro career into their thought process in many ways when electing players (Fran Tarkenton, Pat Swilling, Frank Gifford, etc.). And we are not going to get into all the polls of the greatest college players ever to wear certain numbers (Montana, ...

I don't think the USFL should figure in the voting for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Re: "The Forgotten Four".....
I realize all that; however, Fritz Pollard was mentioned as a pioneer in pro football. Why not Slater?

Re: HOF Safety Talk
Grayson, IIRC, was one of the first players to be a Pro Bowler and All-Pro in the same season as a corner and safety at different times in his career.
Parrish, Lester Hayes, Louis Wright and Erich Barnes are my top overlooked corners. You could throw Albert Lewus in there as well.

Re: HOF Safety Talk
Dave Grayson is another guy I have always thought gets shortchanged a bit.
As a corner and safety, he was a fabulous player that never gets his just due, IMO.
