Re: Newspaper sites

Newspapers.com Extra has the Kansas City Star. Along with Houston, Denver is another problem city. Haven't been able to find a good online source for either the Denver Post or the Rocky Mountain News.

Re: 1952 & 1973 jersey number standardization

The way I've always understood it is the numbering system was based on single-platoon ball. Backs were backs, ends were ends, etc., regardless of which side of the ball they played on: 1-19 QB and kicking specialists 20-49 All other backs, including defensive backs and flanker backs 50-59 Centers an...

Re: Your first NFL watching memories

Best guess is a Colts/Bills game on December 5, 1971. I remember seeing a 17-0 score flashed on the screen and the game ended at 24-0 so that was probably it. I was six and watching with my dad. The most memorable thing about it was that I wanted a snack at some point and told my dad I was hungry. H...

Re: The Football Encyclopedia

There are stats but they're very incomplete and nothing to hang a HoF argument on.

Re: Notable 'last-game-of-regular-season' MNF games

From 1970-77, there was no MNF game during the final week of the season. In those years, the 1971 last MNF game in Week 13 saw George Allen and the Redskins clinch a playoff spot--in his former home, the L.A. Coliseum. This game has seemingly become more memorable for gigantic Andy Reid taking part...

Re: The selfie generation and the future of football

They're kids, well-paid kids mind you, but kids destroying their bodies for our entertainment. If they want to have some fun out there while they're doing it, I'm fine with it. I do find it annoying sometimes, but I've decided that says more about me than it does about them and I'm not going to worr...

Re: Game books update

Thanks, I already have those, but I am trying to find the field goal missed by the Bills Mack Yoho. Does anybody have access to the Buffalo local newspapers for 9/9/63 and 9/10/63? I tried to use that Fulton NY Postcards site but could never get it to work right. The site's a pain to use, to be sur...

The 1946 title game and manly play

Those of us of a certain age, and let's face it, who isn't, will remember the furor that resulted when the NFL instituted the "in the grasp" rule in 1979 or thereabouts. "Let's just put quarterbacks in skirts" was about the nicest thing anyone said about the rule and the argument...

Re: Play by play data entry and stat compiler

I really like you website: http://raiderlogbook.com. I can see what you trying to accomplish. A college stat software program might work for you - yes, there are differences from the pro rules - but even the software the NFL currently uses has bugs (particularly with the team long gains) that they ...
