Re: 2024 Hall of Very Good Nominations

The five people I am nominating for Hall of Very Good this year (never done this before, so let me know what you think): Wilber Marshall Dave Brown Al Baker Bob Baumhower and George Seifert A question I have about coaches: I notice that for Blanton Collier, his years as an assistant coach are liste...

Re: A ton of information in this article

Cliff is so great - another great article from him. The story of Conzleman and Rooney getting in by "voice vote" - Does that mean they said - all in favor say "aye"??? This reminded me of an article that I found of Daley's - I think it was part of the Sports of the Times column. ...

Neal Anderson

I have my nominations in for this year -- but considering Neal Anderson for next year. My memory of him that he was an excellent all-around running back for the Bears for several years. Very good both rushing and receiving. Yet, I don't really hear anything about him anymore and the younger Bears fa...

Re: Looking At the Teams That Attempted to Threepeat

Doing some research on the mid-50s Lions, who won back to back then made the championship game. This is pre-Super Bowl, of course. They had a great chance to three-peat in that era. I think the Packers had been the only threepeat before them - in the late 20s/early 30s before the playoff era. One th...

Re: 2024 Hall of Very Good Nominations

"Regarding those already in a Hall of Fame: We'll also have to discuss whether Flutie or anyone else who is in the Canadian HOF is eligible (in Flutie's case, when his 25 years is up). I would think such a person is not eligible for the HOVG. As the (a) Hall of Fame is greater than the Hall of...

Re: Seniors

Emlen Tunnell is listed as a SS by PFR - his pick numbers are off the charts for a SS and I'm not sure if he really played SS or FS or simply covered half the field. Perhaps someone else knows? Tunnell left safety, generally, though played some CB (called defensive HB at the time, as you know). Gia...

Re: Negro League stats

In all honesty, and I'm guessing that there are others on this forum who feel the same way, the fact whether MLB recognizes Negro League stats or the NFL recognizes AAFC doesn't change my opinion about the quality of the Negro Leagues or the AAFC. Both have always been on par in my book - meaning th...

Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated

Plus they had an incredible list of names on that coaching staff. Green Bay just flat out couldn't beat the Cowboys. Period. Especially at Dallas. Once free agency/age/injury hit the Cowboys, then the Packers took over for their back-to-back NFC titles. Those Packers weren't as good as the Cowboys ...
