Kickoff returns
Has anyone noticed the dramatic decrease in kickoff return numbers league-wide? From 2002-2010 the league averaged about 2,100 returns for some 46,800 yards per season quite steadily. Since then: Season-Returns-Yards 2011-1,375-32,680 2012-1,395-32,892 2013-1,289-30,126 2014-1,226-29,124 2015-1,081-...

Got it too. When I saw "cabal", "scribblers", "lurkers" and "KKK", I immediately thought of Phil Wilson.

Tony Romo
Well, here we are six weeks into the season. Your thoughts on Mr. Romo in the booth? I think he is ok, a little chatty but enthusiastic.

Linescore Committee request for volunteers
All, As Chairman of the Linescore Committee, I am making a request for volunteers to work on a large but significant project. It is to generate game summaries for the seasons 2008-2019. As you probably know the NFL stopped putting summaries in the Record & Fact books, beginning with the 2009 boo...

The Youngstown Vindicator Google paper identifies Paschal as a substitute in Week 11 against Philadelphia and a starter in Week 12 at Washington.

Re: 28 Points in under 3 minutes
Not 28, but according to the Pittsburgh Press the Giants scored 21 against the Steelers on 10/7/1945 in just 36 seconds. A TD pass, an interception and another TD pass, and then a fumble return. Here is the beginning of the article: The unhappiest (or maybe it should be happiest) guy at Forbes Field...

Most famous fumble recoveries/returns in NFL history
Piggy-backing off the interception thread, here is what popped into my head. 1/17/1988: Jeremiah Castille, Browns vs. Broncos, AFC Championship. The Fumble 11/19/1978: Herm Edwards, Eagles vs. Giants. Miracle in the Meadowlands 9/10/1978: Dave Casper, Raiders vs. Chargers. The Holy Roller 10/25/1964...

Excess books
For those attending the Green Bay meeting, I'll be bringing three excess books for anyone to take free. I have a 1996 Sporting News Guide, a 1988 Record & Fact Book and a 1975 Media Information Book. All three are spiral bound. The binding on the 1975 book is damaged, but otherwise good.

Cavaliers win
I know this is not football related, but the Cavaliers edged the Golden State Warriors tonight to become the first team to erase a 3-1 deficit to win the NBA championship and became the first Cleveland franchise to win a professional championship since the 1964 Browns. As a transplanted Titans fan i...
