Re: They Picked Up the Flag!

Two rounds of the playoffs in the books, and after each round the general conversation has been more about officiating and the rule book than the actual games. Unfortunate. It does take away from the fact that the games overall have been very well played by the teams involved. (Less astute) fans te...

Re: Let the Whines Begin...

It was clever and I don't think any rule changes need be made. I have always thought it was pretty lame that they have to announce when a lineman is an eligible receiver, anyway. Let the defense figure it out. Why the need to tell anyone. Obviously a team should tell the ref so he knows, but the ot...

Re: Historic catches that wouldn't be catches today

The difficulty with the "football act" part of the equation is that the football act has to be completed. Bryant lost the ball during the football act, if you interpret it that way. But I don't even think that's true; he was coming down with the ball in only one hand, and that hand was on...

Re: Historic catches that wouldn't be catches today

There are undoubtedly a LOT of great catches that would be called incomplete. This is my main argument against instant replay: where, in past, was the outcry against these great catches? Instant Replay just feeds the beast these days. I know it is useful for many things--no argument there--but it ha...

Re: They Picked Up the Flag!

Yes, my point exactly. Cowboy fans would have been upset and nobody else. Same would have occured if it was the Pats on defense; there would have been a huge outcry. Put anyone but Dallas and NE in this situation and there wouldn;t be half the concern since sometimes the best call is no penalty. Th...

Re: They Picked Up the Flag!

Well, the NFL has said that the call could have gone either way, so no issue with picking up the flag. The mechanics of how it was handled (make the call and then reverse it) seem to be the real issue. They've also pointed out numerous missed calls on both Dallas and Detroit throughout the game. The...

Re: 1947 AAFC Sacks

I've had a hard time finding much game film on 1947. From what I've read, the Yanks had a very good defensive line in both 1946 and 1947 but specifics are difficult to come by. Not sure what kind of pass rusher Jack Russell was but would love to find out!

Re: Historical Misconceptions that "grind your gears" Starte

I'm not even sure how to reply to this. The 90s Cowboys were incredibly deep in talented players. To call Ken Norton and Emmitt Smith "overrated" is insane. It's true not every player was "the best" at their position (what team can claim that?) but Dallas had legitimate All-Pros...

Re: 1995 NFC WR Stats..WTH went on?!

I do think it had to do with the QBs and powerhouse teams of that season. Aikman was throwing to Irvin while Dallas marched to a third Super Bowl in four years, Young, coming off of a Super Bowl victory, was throwing to Rice. Two of the WRs (Moore and Perriman) were recipients of Scott Mitchell's be...
