Re: PFHOF Semifinalists
Seems like this year has a lot of "bubble" guys who have been in the running the last few years. Atwater, Tim Brown, Coryell, Kevin Greene, Haley, Jacoby, Lynch, Shields. I think Seau and Harrison are no-brainers (but I was wrong about Harrison last year), and I have a feeling Kurt Warner ...

Re: How were Quarterbacks rated before QB Rating?
What "system" does the NFL/PFRA people use to recognize historic passing leaders? The rating system that was in use as that time, or applying the current rating system to past seasons?

Re: Your "All-Cool" Teams
Missed this thread the first time around. Evan's descriptions are spot on, including his referee spots. When I think of "cool", I think of someone who either makes things look effortless or exudes an attitude of not giving a damn. Here are a few guys on my team, many of whom have already b...

The Raiders defeated the Niners 42-28 in their 1969 preseason encounter, FWIW.

Found this clip on youtube. I hadn't seen many of the Rams highlights for Matson.

Re: Mike Curtis vs. Jack Lambert
In response, although he was body-slammed by Lambert, I believe that Cliff Harris was a very good safety and should be in the HOF. Roger Wehrli is in, so why not Cliff Harris? In Wehrli's defense, he had guys like Ron Yankowski and Council Rudolph providing the pass rush for him, while Cliff Harris...

Re: Usage of Ollie Matson
He's one of literally only a handful of backs I can think of who, when he broke into the open, you absolutely knew he was gone. Really maybe only Bo Jackson was like that. He routinely outran defenders who had angles on him. There were a handful of similar guys - why weren't they used more - from t...

Usage of Ollie Matson
Big, fast, skilled...a lot to like about Ollie Matson. I've been reading TJ Troup's book about the 1950's, and the chapter on the 1954 Cards was interesting. The Cardinals were terrible, Matson was great, but he wasn't really their #1 RB. He had 5 less carries than FB Johnny Olszewski, even though M...

Re: Mike Curtis vs. Jack Lambert
I don't think Curtis was a better MLB than Lambert. In some respects, I think Lambert is underrated. His best years were after the heydey of the Steel Curtain, yet one perception is that Lambert was a product of Joe Greene's and Ernie Holmes' greatness. Watching Lambert play, his best quality IMO wa...
