Re: Clinic players

Re cornerbacks, if we can believe Dr. Z, the two best cover corners he ever saw were Jim Johnson and Deion Sanders, plus he has referred to Roger Wehrli, Mike Haynes, and Albert Lewis as the "three great technicians" at this position. Am wondering if they merit a mention here as well.

Re: Possible 2020 HoF eligibles

I doubt any of these five have any shot at being "first ballot." Willis might have been if he hadn't retired early. But it wouldn't surprise me to see all five elected sooner or later. Of these, my guess is that Briggs may have the hardest time since he won't likely make an All-decade team...

Possible 2020 HoF eligibles

Patrick Willis has retired and will be eligible for the HoF in 2020. Free agents who would join him if not signed might include Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney, Kevin Williams, and Lance Briggs.

Buchanan, Fillmore, and Pierce have strong cases, though Harrison's run was really too brief to judge. Maybe Warren Harding or Ulysses Grant or Herbert Hoover could grab the last spot.

Parrish (3/8/none and top KR) over Riley (1/0/none) and I don't think it's all that close.

Heh -- not unlike what happens to people who win money on a game show or hit a casino windfall. There's no free lunch.

Re: Tony Dungy VS Jimmy Johnson HOF

I would lean Dungy if choosing between the two, but his candidacy has a couple issues. I would put Dungy on the level of Siefert, who gets no love. But their records are similar. Dungy 148-79 for a .652 percentage . . . 1 Super Bowl win Siefert 124-67 for a .649 percentage 2 Super Bowl wins Gruden ...

Re: Davis versus Bettis for HOF

I have Darrell Green as 4/7/90s (86-87 NEA, 90 PFWkly, 91 consensus) ... Ah, you're using the other major selectors now for your 'profiles'? Good to see it's not "AP Only" anymore ... or at least this is the first time I've noticed the change. Reaser, thanks for asking. I've actually been...

Re: Davis versus Bettis for HOF

I'll repeat what I've said before, why is Darrell Green in? Was he ever the best CB in the NFL during his career? Was his peak that high? He was a very good corner for a long time who had this cool "fastest guy" thing going on, feels very much like the big-back thing. I don't think Green ...

Re: At what point will we run out of "contributers"?

Interesting question: what makes a HoF referee? Is there any NFL equivalent to Bill Klem? Or a HoF announcer (if it's not as utterly silly an idea as I think it is -- Howard Cosell, Don Meredith, and Pat Summerall? Ugh...)

Agreed with all here that deserving Seniors belong in before any such folks.
