Re: Goal Posts

Former Cardinals owner Bill Bidwell had a reputation for being tight with a dollar so it wouldn't suprise me if your guess is on track. My initial thought was that Bidwell probably didn't want to spend the extra money to upgrade to the new "Tele-Goal" style posts. The Cards had just switc...

Re: More fodder. . .

Quarterbacks are the most important players and there aren't 32 good ones, obviously. You'd want to protect them, too. It's just good business. This insistence on bloodlust from longtime fans just baffles me. What, not enough people get decapitated anymore for your liking? Not enough guys unable to...

Re: More fodder. . .

Quarterbacks put themselves at greatest risk when they slide at the last moment. Sliding too late leaves them completely prone to the hits from defenders that have already committed themselves to making the tackle. It’s the most poorly conceived rule in football.

Re: Minnesota Vikings #22

Krause was the final piece of the puzzle for the Purple People Eaters. Their pass defense was impenetrable for the next 10 years after Krause arrived in 1968. It’s a joke that he wasn’t elected to Canton until 1998.

Re: 2024 Obituaries

Winnipeg Blue Bombers legends, and Canadian Football Hall of Fame members, Ken Ploen and Gerry James both passed away on February 13th. Both men were four time Grey Cup champions during the Bud Grant era. Ploen, as quarterback of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, was the 1956 season Big 10 Player of ...

Re: 1990's Chiefs

Like I detailed in another post awhile back, these were the quarterbacks for teams that beat Martyball in the postseason ... Marino -- 1985, 90, 94 Elway -- 1986, 87, 97 Moon -- 1988 Kelly -- 1991, 93 Brady -- 2006 All in the HOF but he also lost to QBs, Humphries, Harbaugh and Pennington who had g...

Re: 1990's Chiefs

Marty went 101-58-1 in KC but he wasn’t the right guy for the job? Ridiculous! He was the right guy for any coaching job that opened up anywhere in the league as he proved in Cleveland and San Diego and would have proven in Washington. Marty didn’t miss the field goals and commit the fumbles that pl...

Re: Obscure trivia

This team had the NFC's #1 offense and beat 4 playoff teams but still missed the playoffs because they lost to 3 last place squads. Name the team. The ‘03 Vikings. Wrong 2002 Saints. Seven months later lol. Actually not wrong. The Vikings had the NFL’s #1 offense. They beat four playoff teams; the ...

Re: JOE NAMATH vs LEN DAWSON

Both were great in their own way but Dawson should have been named the All-AFL decade QB over Joe.

Re: Random NFL tidbits/stats that you find interesting...

Two instances of nondescript players having the games of their lives: On November 5, 1967, after losing their first seven games, Walter “the flea” Roberts was the hero in the New Orleans Saints first ever victory; 31-24 over Philadelphia Eagles. Roberts scored three TD’s on a 91 yard kickoff return,...
